Limbaugh The Legend

During a January 1998 appearance on NBC's The Today Show, First Lady Hillary Clinton blamed the escalating scandal surrounding her husband's malfeasance in office on a "vast right-wing conspiracy."

As the following months and years would prove, former President Bill Clinton's misconduct was far from a conspiracy—it was documented, litigated, and eventually shown for the world to see during his impeachment.

But, let's consider the use of that phrase—"vast right-wing conspiracy" - during a time when there were hardly any nationally recognized conservative media powerhouses speaking on behalf of Americans for whom mainstream print and television news never represented. Where could something so "vast" as holding a president accountable for his actions come from in a time where conservatives had so few champions on the airwaves?

That is the legacy of the late Rush Limbaugh.

At a time when the left controlled so many levers of power in popular culture and media, Rush Limbaugh came along to stand against the failed status quo.

Rush refused to concede that our founding principles of liberty and freedom had no place in the national dialogue. He was the spokesperson for the modern conservative movement.

Through his golden EIB microphone, Rush spoke passionately about the values and traditions that some of today's conservatives may take for granted. He knew that the battle against an ever-growing government hell-bent on encroaching on our individual liberties was a daily fight. For a time, one of the only places that battle took place was on a radio station between noon and 3:00 PM EST.

Rush staked his claim for conservatives in the national conversation during a time when there was no seat for us at the table. He opened the door for so many of today's political commentators by reminding the nation that, even though bi-coastal media and political elites want to pretend we don't exist, conservative voices deserve to – and must – be heard.

Given his patriotism, humor, and relentless pursuit of truth, it's no wonder that the impact of a single man would be characterized by then First Lady Hillary Clinton as "vast." Given his commitment to shining a light on the conduct of public officials whom the establishment media wouldn't touch, it's no surprise that the aforementioned First Lady hoped to hand wave him away as a "conspiracy."

The loss of Rush Limbaugh is not only a loss for conservatives, but a loss for our entire nation. When national media conglomerates increasingly control what we can and cannot discuss, Rush was a breath of fresh air who encouraged those who felt ignored by the media and forgotten by the elected officials that there's no shame in loving our great country and the values that led to its founding.

He spurred a new generation of freedom-loving Americans who would go on to fight for our values—across the public and private sectors, patriots were emboldened to speak their minds and defend the Constitution against Democrat incursion.

It is impossible to overstate the contribution Rush made to our country's political discourse.

May we honor his memory by keeping his spirit of free discussion alive, so that we never return to a time where one voice challenging the entire liberal establishment may be simply brushed aside as a "vast right-wing conspiracy."

Rest in Peace, Rush Limbaugh

Citizens United Joins Coalition to Defeat H.R. 1

CU is proud to sign onto this letter. H.R. 1 must be defeated! "H.R. 1 and S. 1 would dramatically alter the First Amendment protections that Americans have enjoyed since the founding of our country. It would institute sweeping new burdens on their constitutionally protected rights to freely speak, publish, and organize into groups to advocate for the causes they support." Read more:

Texas v. Pennsylvania Amicus Brief (2020 Presidential Election)

Citizens United, Citizens United Foundation and The Presidential Coalition have filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court urging the court to permit Texas to challenge the manner in which Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Georgia chose their Presidential Electors in the 2020 presidential election. The brief explains why the Framers vested the exclusive authority in state legislatures for deciding the “manner” in which presidential electors are elected, and why it is important for the Supreme Court to enforce that authority against the Defendant states in light of their failures to follow the processes mandated by their respective legislatures.

Citizens United Commends Work of Election Integrity Project California, Inc.

Citizens United is pleased to commend the outstanding work of Election Integrity Project California, Inc. (EIPCa).

Citizens United has often focused attention on California as a rogue state whose election laws inhibit free and fair elections, and in many respects invite outright election fraud. EIPCa, with its over 11,000 volunteers, has effectively fought to restore and defend the rights of California voters since 2010. EIPCa’s Observation Program has been an effective weapon and a driving force in vastly improving poll worker training, holding elections officials accountable, and educating California voters about their electoral process with the goal of ensuring that every lawfully cast vote is accurately counted.

For example, EIPCa’s 2017 lawsuit against California’s Secretary of State and Los Angeles County’s Registrar of Voters forced the state into compliance with federal mandates (NVRA) for voter roll maintenance. LA County alone was required to remove 1.5 million inactive (deceased or moved) voters from its rolls, and all 58 California counties were put on notice to follow suit in cleaning up their rolls.

The influence of EIPCa’s Election Integrity Project® is now being felt in Arizona, Nevada, and Arkansas as its affiliated organizations in those states work to bring greater election integrity to their own citizens.

EIPCa’s Election Integrity Project® is impacting the fight for election integrity nationwide as a founding member of the Election Integrity Alliance, a coalition dedicated to working and sharing best practices with, as well as supporting and mentoring 501(c)(3) state-based organizations dedicated to election integrity throughout the nation.

Citizens United is honored to endorse the work of Election Integrity Project California, and encourages all who love and believe in free and fair elections to learn more at www.eip-ca.com.

Trump v. New York - Merits Amicus Brief (Illegal Immigration/Census)

In Trump v. New York, Citizens United, and its sister organizations Citizens United Foundation and The Presidential Coalition, urge the Supreme Court to overturn a three-judge District Court ruling enjoining the Secretary of Commerce and other government officials from following President Trump's directive to exclude illegal immigrants from the population base on which congressional reapportionment is to be made. Citizens United's main argument is that the Constitution vests Congress with broad discretion over lawmaking as it relates to conducting the Census and that the Census Act, in turn, delegates broad discretion to the President and the Executive Branch over how the Census is to be conducted. We contend that the District Court's injunction effectively usurps the President's statutory and constitutional authority by substituting the judges' policy preferences over those of the President.

Trump v. New York - Amicus Brief (Illegal Immigrants-Census)

On Friday, October 2, 2020, Citizens United, Citizens United Foundation and The Presidential Coalition, LLC filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court supporting the Trump Administration’s request that the Court summarily reverse a decision of a three judge U.S. District Court panel from the Southern District of New York, which issued an injunction prohibiting Commerce Department officials from following a presidential memorandum directing the Department and U.S. Census Bureau provide the President with data that would allow the Administration to exclude illegal immigrants from the population counts on which congressional re-apportionment is made every ten years. The brief contends that the plaintiffs – a concoction of Democrat-run states and pro-illegal immigration non-profit organizations – lack standing to challenge the President’s directive, and that the President’s directive is consistent with the Constitution’s mandate on counting the population of each states because illegal immigrants are not part of the “people of the several States” to whom congressional apportionment applies. The Supreme Court has ordered expedited briefing in the case and a decision on whether to summarily reverse the District Court panel or set the case for full briefing and argument is expected in short order.
